- Schwarzbart, Isaac Ignacy
(1888-1961)
Polish Zionist leader. He was born in Chrzanow, Galicia. He was the founder in 1929 of the World Union of General Zionists and served as its chairman. In 1938 he helped to establish a committee to co-ordinate the activities of the Zionists in western Galicia and Silesia. In the same year he was elected to the Polish Sejm. During World War II he was a member of the Polish government-in-exile in Paris and London. From 1946 he lived in the US, where he was active in the World Jewish Congress. His memoir Between the Two World Wars describes Jewish life in Krakow.
